How to read a stock market heatmap
Each tile represents one of the largest S&P 500 holdings, grouped by sector. Larger tiles represent larger weights in SPY, an ETF that tracks the index. Green indicates a positive price change; red indicates a negative change. Stronger colors show larger moves.
Compare daily, monthly, YTD and multi-year performance
The daily view compares the two latest available session closes. Weekly and monthly views compare the latest close with the saved close on or just before seven or thirty calendar days earlier. Three-month, six-month and one-year views use saved weekly closes; YTD, three-year and five-year views use monthly closes. YTD starts at the previous year-end. Longer lookbacks use the available completed week or month on or before the target date, so they are approximate. Returns use one adjusted series with a matching current close; missing or stale history stays gray.
Explore stock performance by sector
Choose a sector or search for a company to focus the map. Select a stock for its price date, performance and research link. The table provides the same information in a readable list.
